I started doing photo a day on Instagram for August Break 2013 somewhere in early August. It was a good motivational exercise for spending time daily playing with photography and apps. Something I never had the leisure or time to even consider before. Now that August is over, I thought I’d do a quick wrap up and move on :P

Most likes

I found that the number of likes on some level is dependent on the tags used. If you use the right combination, it is easier for others to “discover” your pictures and for one to discover other people in turn. That is why tags such as “dogsofinstagram” and “dogoftheday” are so popular. Unfortunately some people do spam, meaning they tag a picture “dogs” even when it is a photo of themselves. – –

Most commented

Yup the dog gets more comments than other photos. Small wonder there are so many celebrity pets on Instagram :P

Conclusion

Like the photo challenges on WordPress, August Break 2013 gathered and grouped together a group of unique individuals, who are interested in the same thing for that short period of time, creating pictures related to each of the topic of the day. They create a supportive haven within the ocean of photos that is Instagram from which one can slowly venture and explore.

Here’s my final “report card” using the Collect app. I started on the fourth day :P
