Drool-worthy

So there’s hard boiled egg in the dish. And I’m ‘waiting’, see I am ‘waiting’.

What’s going to make this waiting go faster? Hmm….

… …

There I’m desperate! D: Are you happy now? Are you?

I could never see a point for the ‘wait’ command. ‘Stay’ works well enough for us and we use it when we want her to wait or to keep to one spot. And to be frank, I couldn’t for the life of me understand how people got their dog to wait anyway when there is food right in front of their nose.

But then along the way, I sort of figured out if I get her to ‘sit-stay’ at one end of our tiny galley kitchen, and place the food at the other end of the kitchen, that could help teach her to ‘wait’. So we did that every mealtime, and the word “wait” started to creep in after she got the concept that she was supposed to sit-stay and wait for me to tell her when it is OK to go eat her food. While she waits, I usually step around her to get the fish oil from the cabinet to squirt into the food. Not sure if it starts to make sense for the dog that she is waiting for fish oil to be squirted so that her food gets a fishy taste. Haha. But she waits.

And then it finally dawned on me why people like to make their dog wait for their food! Seeing drool drip from her “puss-in-boots” face is highly amusing. It made me laugh out loud. It did.

I’m sorry if that sounds sadistic. :P

  1. Whahahahaha! Oh, you are quite sadistic yes. But it sure is cute when they start drooling and those eyes..they get so droopy..hahahah. Poor Donna…but I am sure the wait was well worth it…hehehe. Great shots hon. *big hugs* to both of you. xxx

    • I guess its moments like this that capture how cute local mongrels and black dogs can actually be :D I assure you Donna didn’t have long to wait, she starts drooling immediately upon sit sometimes, depending on what food is in the bowl. :D Have a great day yourself!

      • Absolutely and that is what makes life so special indeed Mrs. P. They are such a treat and so special and oh, I know that for a fact…LOL! Simba got tired of drooling so he taught me how to obey him..hahahah. He would actually call me to follow him…he shakes his head in the direction of the kitchen..then he runs in front of me, looking behind him to see if I am following. If I don’t, he comes back and barks at me..with that look in this eyes that says : Hey, where the hell are you? Then he would run again, look behind him to see if I am following. His tin with treats are in a doggie tin on the top of the fridge. I would then pretend I have no idea what he wants. He would then bark again, look up at the tin and jump up against the fridge and cock his head at the tin. When I point at the tin, he would bark again. Then when I open it he would become very excited. You can see those eyes lightening up..LOL! Then I would give him one, he would take it very gently from my hand, runs off with it but after 14 years we now know he wants 2 treats every morning. After eating the first one he would come to you wherever you are and look at you with a question in his eyes…’Where’s my other treat huh?’ LOL!

        • Sounds like Simba has his own mind, he wants 2 treats, nothing more and nothing less. 2. :D
I guess its lucky for me Donna doesn’t really bark, :P she can’t train me into doing things. Bwahahahahahaha :P

  2. Oh my goodness! this is hilarious!!! The things furry mommies do for a little amusement… hahahaha

  3. Yes drool always lovely. We use ‘wait’ a lot especially when we’re out and she’s off lead ahead of us. She stops and waits for us on the path. Then we say ‘good wait’ and she gets a treat. Often good near roads too. Works 99% of the time because if there’s a dead animal or crumb of food around she’s off with no looking back. We do use ‘stay’ too – usually when I’m nipping into a shop and she needs to wait (on leash) outside and sit nicely. She usually uses this time for a quick grooming session. But she knows we’ll come back. Don’t think it matters what word you use really! Try a foreign language!!

    • That makes sense! Sadly, off-leash is somewhat lacking in Donna’s training at the moment :P Slowly working on that, and I do mean slow……. I’m totally sure Donna will be off with no looking back as long as there is pee-mail or worse, another dog, not too sure about food since the town council is pretty efficient at removing dead animals over here. You never see them. Until she gets great recall, I’m a little paranoid about letting her off leash which I think she will enjoy at a secluded beach or some other more secluded park land. And in any case, it’s illegal here for dogs to be off-leash anywhere except fenced dog parks. Though people do close an eye for small dogs, sigh. Donna needs to shrink herself :P

Donna usually starts grooming when she decides she has enough of doggy parkour. Hahaha. Despite all your issues of the stinky food kind with Ruby, it sounds like she’s coming along nicely :) So good.

  4. Ha – well we drool when we have to wait for yummies too :)

    • Drooling good times! :D Thanks for popping by :) Have a great day with your little bundle of joy :3

  5. Haha – think all dog owners have probably thought the *exact* same thing about “drool drip” at least once. :)
