Donna takes her own sweet time

Last week in the comments on Donna and husky videos, Lindsay from ThatMutt.com said: “The videos made me smile :) She’s fast!”

Yah, when our local mongrel dog wants to be. Her normal walking speed is…

This: Old lady walking speed

OK, I said walk, not stop.

Does your dog walk this slowly?

The human walks faster than this, but is keeping pace with the plodding dog.

Left. Right. Left. Right. The human walking backwards is faster than Donna.

Maybe she just wants to go home and sleep.
It’s probably boring after the rain when there’s nothing to sniff.

(Yes, I seriously did take four boring videos of my dog walking XD)

And it’s not only when she is off leash. When she is on the leash, she usually starts out next to me but before half the walk is over, she will be lagging and trailing behind. And I have to keep looking back at her to make sure that she doesn’t scare people walking past us by suddenly turning to sniff at them, or to snatch up and gobble random discarded food that she finds on the floor. Thankfully, she doesn’t do either that often.

That: Zero velocity dog

I’m don’t really care what you are doing I just want to lie here.

She’s either incredibly lazy or incredibly zen.

  1. I love your videos! They made me smile too! Thanks for joining in and for sharing :)

  2. Fun to see Donna in motion.

  3. Wonderfully embedded video. Lovely effect!

  4. Haha, incredibly lazy or incredibly zen – I love it! Duke was walking so slow yesterday but I blamed it on the fact that it was freezing outside. I think Donna is just being incredibly zen!

    • Oh I can imagine not wanting to go outside when it’s freezing. The last time I was on a mountain top where there was chance of snow… I just hid in the bed while Mr P went to bathe in the hot spring. :P

  5. Sorry, I don’t do Vines or want to “download the app”.

    • No problem, but it will be very helpful for me to know how you are reading the blog. I am asking this because the vine video plays by itself when the webpage is viewed on a web browser. There is no need to download any app. I also tried to view the page on my iPhone safari browser and it is the same thing. Video plays by itself, you don’t need to download or install the app. I also tried viewing the page from within the wordpress app and when i clicked to play, it plays on the quicktime player that is pre-installed. By rights you should be able to view the video without having to download any app or install any third party plugin at all. So I’m curious why you appear to think that you need to download the app in order to view the video. :)

      • When I click on it, it opens up a new window and there’s still a blank screen plus a “download app” button. It’s (ugh) Windose 7. I’ll try it on my Linux machine.

      • OK-it works on Linux with no problem. The only reason I keep Windows around is that work has a stupid (but essential) application that not only requires Windows, but insists that Internet Explorer be the default browser.

  6. That last vine is hilarious. The good news is that a slow walker is much better than a fast walker/puller. Although you may have to budget some serious extra time to make it home on your walks

    • It’s the extra time to make it home for walks that sometimes end up us walking for 1.5 to 2 hours XD …take about bad time management! Nowadays the rain keeps us walking shorter times.

  7. FleaByte

Huh. Our dogs are sometimes this way when walking. In the backyard they’re all zoomies and play, even at nearly 12 years old, but walking, not so much. It’s like they know that they’ll be walking far and long and just don’t want to put in the effort. Dogs are weird.

    • Good. I thought Donna might not be the only one that does that, but I wasn’t sure since we only ever had 1 dog! :P The weird habits keep us entertained ::P

  8. Thanks so much for joining TNT, Love the videos of Donna in (slow) motion!

  9. The ZERO velocity dog. You aren’t kidding! Thanks for hopping onto This N That Thursday this week! Woof.

  10. My setter used to do a full Gandhi when he didn’t feel like doing whatever it was you had it mind and he didn’t. He went completely limp. One day me and a friend, tired of the passive resistance, hauled him into the back yard on a blanket. When we got to the steps he gave in, stood up and actually walked the rest of the way on his own paws. Some dogs do that. Funny and weird.

    • LOL What a character!

The one time I walked a little too far (because I was a newly minted dog idiot), Donna had to keep walking to get home even though she would rather rest. She decided enough was enough. And so she violently threw herself on the floor on her side and just played the dead dog… in the middle of the road! No amount of coaxing will get her up. I thought if I just pulled on her lead and continued walking she would just get up and walk…. but no… she just let herself be dragged along by her collar!! I was like OMG! OMG!

Donna probably has the same streak of passive resistance in her like your setter.

  11. Donna is such a character. :D No, my dogs definitely don’t walk slow. Pierson is better about not pulling on the leash than Maya, but he often has to stop and wait for me.

    • Hah! I would have thought Pierson will be the one to pull on the leash since Maya is that one you take out to events! I secretly worry that Donna will grow into a crotchety, grumpy dog in her old age, looking at the way she is now… Haha!!

  12. OMG… I love the zen comment. Usually cats are pretty zen, but I think I’d include Donna! Often Cooper heels so close to our heels that we almost trip over him if we don’t keep a straight line. But at least he keeps pace with us usually. Great post and the videos are short and sweet.

    • Cooper sounds like he has heel down to a pat!! Thank you :) The videos make up for the boredom when she is walking this slowly. Hah!

  13. Very interesting. She does walk slow. It’s like she is too fat to walk fast but she is not fat. She seems very happy though. Enjoy it.
