DBS Marina Regatta 2015 is Dog-friendly :D

DBS Marina Regatta 2015 urban farming workshopTwo weeks ago, I got to attend an Urban Farming Workshop conducted by social enterprise Edible Garden City, hosted by DBS Bank as part of their run-up to this year’s DBS Marina Regatta 2015. I heard about the event via @sgig

With both the DBS Marina Regatta 2015 and Pet Asia 2015 both happening in town this weekend, there’s no way we will stay away!

Here are some of the highlights for the Regatta!

DBS Marina Regatta 2015 fringe events

Now if you are like me and live in a world of your own :P, you may like to know that the DBS Marina Regatta is billed as Singapore’s biggest watersports festival. While I had the privilege of interviewing Dr Benedict Tan, sports doctor and former national sailor and some young and firm wakeboarding enthusiasts in those long-gone school days. :P That was about all my involvement in water sports. :P

So why do I want to bring Donna to the DBS Marina Regatta?

Well, it could be the novelty. This will be the first public dog-friendly* event for humans that I bring Donna too. Previously, we only brought her to events specifically planned for dogs, like the Natgeo Free Pet Shop.

The location itself is also interesting. See the event map here.  We’ve not had a chance to bring Donna to The Promontory @ Marina Bay yet. I’m hoping we’ll find it fun to see some races with dog.

About 2,500 paddlers are expected to compete at this year’s DBS Marina Bay Regatta, which will offer a total prize purse of S$215,000 across nine race categories. – channelnewsasia

Besides the watersports, there are various dog-friendly fringe events planned which will probably make strolling around the place interesting.

I’m planning to check out the following:

  • DBS Art Park | This is one of the open areas that is pet-friendly.  The DBS Art Park will showcase eight up and coming artists aged 18-35 from NOISE who will be working on four giant art cubes. aSno dOink, two times Singapore Graffiti champion, will lead another group of four artists, under Skratch Army, on the development of the fifth cube.
  • Artisanal Flea market | The massive markdowns on items that will go on sale during these three weekends are sure to set shopaholics’ hearts racing. Even those who typically find shopping a chore will enjoy browsing through the quirky, one-of-a-kind products at the bazaar. Although shopping with dog in tow may be a tad difficult if there’s a crowd :P
  • DBS Marina Regatta Cosplay Cup | There will be cosplayers performing on a stage. Now if a cosplayer will just stroll past and not mind posing for a picture with Donna! :P :P :P

Not this weekend, but perhaps another trip down in June?

  • SG’s first pop up urban beach | …complete with palm trees, deck chairs, and a beach bar in the heart of Marina Bay during the third weekend of the DBS Marina Regatta from 13 to 14 June 2015. The beach will also feature a 25m by 15m pool where a host of activities including stand-up paddling and stand-up yoga will take place.

Some items we have to miss, but you may be interested:

  • DBS Movies by the Bay | Would love to picnic and watch this with family and dog, but too bad we’ve watched the movies for the screening before so Mr P is not interested in this. :P

Of course, we’re bound to get hungry when we’re there:

  • DBS Food Village by Savour | Expect world-class dishes brought to you by local award-winning chefs such as Chef David, Chef Consultant at Onion Restaurant Group, who has been a personal chef for many luminaries including President George Bush, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Not sure is this last item is pet-friendly, but we can always buy the food and eat in the open-air. ;)

If you love gardening and plants,

Here’s a sneak peek based on the workshop I attended two weeks ago.

And Donna asks the all important question – What is this?? Good to eat?? :P

Keen to go? Here’s the program for the next three weekends, courtesy of DBS Marina Regatta:

Note: The second weekend may not be so good to visit with dog if your dog is likely to be spooked by displays such as the pyrotechnics and laser show. Do take note.

Have a great weekend, guys!

UPDATE: We went! Check out photos and videos of our visit to the DBS Marina Regatta 2015 here.

//Many thanks to Deborah Ong from DBS Marina Regatta who very kindly responded to my queries about the pet-friendly areas at the event. More information on their website here.

  1. It sounds like great fun. I would love to attend some of those. Do you eat the greens in a salad or do something else with them?

Thanks so much for joining the hop!

  2. Wow that’s a lot going on. I had no idea there were so many dog friendly things to do in Singapore. I hope you have a great time and that you will share your experiences with us.

Thank you for joining the blog hop!

  3. Yes, Donna. They’re good to eat and good for you. The dogs here get pumpkin, apple, kale, carrots and, of course, green beans every day. The vet is not only on board with this, he suggested it.
