(Cookies: Bite-sized Life Lessons) – Book review

(Cookies: Bite-sized Life Lessons) seems to be that book that tries to help children understand abstract concepts through baking cookies.

Most of it might fly over the head of young toddlers like 2.5 year old Little P but we still like cookies anyway. Hah!

小饼干的大道理 is originally written in English by American author Amy Krouse Rosenthal. The book is titled Cookies: Bite-sized Life Lessons.

Note: There are human-like animals in this book. Looking for realistic Montessori-aligned books instead? Escape here!
If not, read on. ;)

The following photos will help you understand the style of the book – 小饼干的大道理 (Cookies: Bite-sized Life Lessons) – as it follows the same format throughout.

(Note: English translations written by me so it may not be the same as the original English book.)

Collaboration. Inside 小饼干的大道理 is originally written in English by American author Amy Krouse Rosenthal.
(Working together means – I will mix the flour and you will add in the chocolate buttons, is that alright with you?)
Patience. Inside 小饼干的大道理 is originally written in English by American author Amy Krouse Rosenthal.
(Patience means – Waiting and waiting until the cookies are baked and smell delicious. )
Courage and Regret. The book is titled Cookies: Bite-sized Life Lessons.
Courage means – I have not seen cookies like these before (looks burnt to me in the illustration) but ok, I will try it and see. )

(Regret means – I really shouldn’t have eaten all those cookie in one go.)

It’s feels almost like an illustrated glossary of terms about “Being Human”, doesn’t it?

The terms get more and more abstract towards the end of the book. Think words like “being positive”, “being negative” and “wisdom”.

Erm, I think I’m at the stage Little P is still processing simpler more straightforward feelings and words like “sad”, “angry” and “scared”. How well or accurately has he defined these basic terms in his understanding? That is something I find hard to gauge still. Haha!

So definitely, the book was easier in the beginning and harder for me to read with him as we progressed through the pages.

Being trustworthy - The book is titled Cookies: Bite-sized Life Lessons.
(Being trustworthy means if you ask me to help you hold your cookie for a while, you will find the cookie still in my hand when you return.)

Ok, this page he understands.
Nope, not gonna happen, says the two-year-old. hah!

I felt like it was too long a book to read to a young toddler like Little P. However we were happily eating cookies while reading so I managed to made it through to the end. :P

So in conclusion, this book I feel is for older kids who are capable of starting to understand more complex concepts. So it’s a little bit beyond Little P at this stage. But, it was still fun for him to sit and eat cookies while listening to all these new words. :P

Playdough cookies. 小饼干的大道理 is originally written in English by American author Amy Krouse Rosenthal. The book is titled Cookies: Bite-sized Life Lessons.
And after that we took out our playdough to make some cookies!
(Cookies: Bite-sized Life Lessons) next to our batch of blue cookies!

Maybe when he is older, we’ll bake some cookies and read this again while waiting for the cookies to be baked.
