Second stay at Paw Planet

car ride to paw planetDonna always has to sit and be able to look out the window when in the car. Does she recognise the roads? We think she does, because the last time we headed for Paw Planet, she already had her tailed curled in between her legs in apprehension, even before we turn into the road leading to Paw Planet.

She fared much better this time round. She didn’t react until we were in the compound and 2 metres away from the gated outdoor area where the dogs played.  And then she tried to walk the human around the car parked in front of that gate so that we turn away from it and head back towards the main exit of the property! D:

Oh no, you don’t!

Now what is it with her and entering an enclosure with dogs in it? Because once we got her in there, she was just fine.

Checking out the other dogs and the Paw Planet premises in general. Doesn’t look fearful, does she?

And then it began.

Come on new friend, let’s play!

She seemed particularly interested in the only husky there.

Donna getting excited on her own while the husky plods around… I have never heard a husky’s awooo~ song until that day. Cool.

Did I mention that she was playbow-ing a husky that was wearing a cone?

I imagine if I were the husky with an infected eye and stuck with that cone of shame, I would be quite irritated with Donna. Apparently the silly girl continously play bowed Dakota the husky but when approached,  Donna would shriek for no reason…just like a silly girl, even though the husky never touched her. I had to tell Paw Planet that no, I don’t believe it is normal for Donna to be shrieking, since she is usually a quiet dog that doesn’t vocalise even when playing. I can only guess that Donna may have been overly-aroused, looking at some of the pictures I shot. But as long as she is not fearful, she should be fine.

The two resident dogs of Paw PlanetTux and Tazza. Check out their amazing tree vault video here. I wonder if Donna can ever do something like that.

Donna doesn’t seem to be that interested in Tux or Tazza though, when we were there. But Melissa said she had a good play session the next morning, I assume with Ashley the border collie whom Donna was BFF with on her previous stay.

Donna does her usual thorough inspection of the premises. This might be Tazza I looked at the pictures again and realised it can only be Tux in the foreground (because of the face markings! How blind am I???), looking really cute :) I’m not that great at telling border collies apart. Haha!

  1. Dogs totally remember roads to places. Torrey can remember places a year later.

    • It’s quite amazing considering she doesn’t get to sniff anything being on the car, for her to recognise the road… I think. :)

  2. Yes, we know where we are a lot of the time. Kenzie (RIP), the Westie, was fine until we made a certain left (a long way from the groomer) but was fine with a right. If we made a left-the complaining started and didn’t let up.

    • Haha!! So now we know that dogs have perfect eyesight and road memory, no matter how elevated in a strange vehicle they are! Must have been fine taking Kenzie (RIP) to the groomers. :P

  3. Do you think Donna might have thought the cone was really weird and that’s why she vocalized? It sounds like she did just fine in all.

    • That had not occurred to me but it does make sense that the cone could be a factor! That’s for suggesting that. Guess I’ll keep an eye out to see if it can be verified the next time we meet a dog with a cone! But yes, I do think she did ok. And I don’t think she was particularly unhappy with the cone since her first reaction (at least from what I know) will be to growl when she is feeling aggressive and to avoid if she were feeling fearful.

  4. Maybe she thought the cone was a toy? It has pretty much all the same characteristics, but unfortunately none of the fun.

    • I’m not sure if she thinks of it as a toy since we don’t have something similar like that that she plays with… Does look cumbersome and probably makes the husky more clumsy perhaps, because of the obstructed view and just the unwieldiness of it.

  5. Love seeing the photos of Donna and her friends. And yes, dogs can remember roads. In fact we used to take a chihuahua I had as a child to my grandparents several hours drive away, and somehow she always knew when we were just a few streets away. I fin ‘to know how she did it, but she always did.
