When we first got the keys to the flat, we determined that we wouldn’t spend too much on outfitting it. This meant no false ceilings, down/cove lights or additional interior design and renovation work that really was unnecessary for a flat that was pretty much move in condition. We also want to only spend money  on functional items, nothing that was decorative with collecting dust being its only aim in life.

Yet, I didn’t want the flat to be totally utilitarian and boring either. So I spent some time sourcing for interesting or pretty lamps that are affordable, since these will probably be the only structurally decorative and yet functional pieces in the flat.

Keeping things simple keeps life simple. That keeps me on an even keel.

Sadly, visitors to the flat don’t spend time looking at the ceiling enough! Hahahahahaha! :P

  1. Lovely lamps.
I’m glad our visitors don’t look up too much… We’ve moved house almost 2 uears ago, but we still haven’t put up our lamps.

    • The bare lightbulb can be quite poetic, as quite a number of shops going industrial-chic in the malls have discovered. We have some of these too, in the more utilitarian areas of the house. Cheap and good. It’s no wonder you haven’t put up your lamps! :D And yes, visitors don’t look up much. It’s all for the homeowner’s pleasure only at the end of the day ;)

  2. Why look up when looking down brings Donna into view!

  3. They are fit so well into this week’s challenge–really like them all. Simplicity has its beauty, Each one has strong angles, lines and shapes. Nice subject. Happy Phoneography Monday.

  4. I like those. Very cool!!

  5. They are all beautiful and I really love the first photo. Nice.

  6. Very nice collage of photo’s in black and white. People do look up, lamps and light are important.

    • :D Thank you, perhaps people do notice them but it’s me just thinking the light fixtures need more attention than they deserve :P Haha!

  7. Such pretty pigtures!

  8. Very nice and perfectly suited to B&W. I used to like to lie over the arm of a comfy chair, looking at the ceiling and imagining what it would be like as the floor–stopping over the “sills”, lights sticking out of the floor, etc. :-)

janet, whose entry goes up tomorrow morning

    • That sounds very meditative, actually. :) I don’t I’m ever in that sort of contemplative state of mind to do it at all. Very zen. :)

  9. You live in a flat that doubles as an appliance store :-) Nice B&W offering of your array of light fixtures.

  10. Great contrast! Thanks for sharing the apps used I’m always on the look out for new ones.

  11. Lights rule – we have several ones including the norm69 which took me 4 hours to put together – and then I assembled another 2 more. Scratched hands and a lot of effort but they look great :)

    • LOL, yes the Norm69 is structurally interesting. Good choice. I thought it looked difficult to put together, plus it didn’t fit into our measly budget :P so I went for the lotus paper light which comes in one piece that you just pull and wrap around the wired ball that holds the bulb. So I guess Norm69 no 2 and 3 went faster for you after taking 4hrs (!) on the first one? :P The lengths we do for nice lights. Must look up at the ceiling more often!
