My Best Photo of the Week (MBPOTW) Challenge – week 2

This is a very busy picture, lots of detail but it would not be apparent to a casual viewer exactly what this is a photograph of or where it is taken. I wanted this picture to live in the moment where all one needs to do is follow where the lines run in this temporal space. In doing so, I realised I was slowly pushing the image towards abstraction. The sense of depth is lost, while the shapes and lines gain strength from the black and white treatment.

For this picture, you are free to guess what this is a photograph of and where it is taken. But given it’s abstract presentation, I’m not really sure if it will engage you in the first place. Speaking for myself, I have always had difficulty connecting with abstract works. But doing this, I think will perhaps help me to slowly develop at least some understanding/appreciation of how to approach “abstract” as a theme.

Overall, as an image I am quite happy with the composition. I feel the lines in the ceiling make the picture dynamic and compensate for the static shapes hanging below. I thought I would end up posting another dog picture, but I did this last night and was happy with it.

During the edit, I wanted to make the lines in the picture stand out. I used the multiple effects feature for the first time in Camera+ to help me accentuate the lines and desaturate the colour.

I have often looked at pictures and thought, I wonder how he did that. I am pondering if anyone will be interested in posts that show you how these images of mine are created. At the same time, I don’t really want to spend time creating something that nobody is interested in. If you do think you will like to see posts like that or have a particular picture you have questions about, leave me a note in the comments. :)

  1. This is a wonderful photo! Yes, I would be interested in knowing the process. I can’t even begin to guess where this was taken at. I imagine the color version is not nearly as good as this black and white version. Great job!

  2. Very cool picture!

  3. The image is very creative. Catching the eyes and brain to think whether the mirror was there, reflect the lines back to us or the lines just went straight through space infinitely.

  4. Makes me think of Tic-Tac-Toe … hehehe. Love the effect Mrs. P and great photo for the challenge. :D *hugs*

  5. Neat picture. I would like to see how you created the images. :)
