We are at Gardens by the Bay in the Supertree Grove area. According to gardensbythebay.com.sg, Luminarie light sculptures specially constructed are flown in from Italy to re-create a two-century old Spiegeltent, a European-style Festive Market. The light scultures are inspired by Baroque architecture from the 16th and 17th centuries, according to the Straits Times.

The light sculptures framed the walk ways to and fro the Christmas Market.  Donna wonders why I bother to take pictures when there are too many photobombers! Haha!

We should hurry to go check out the blizzard, human!

Alright, alright, alright.

So we headed for the Luminaire. The event’s centrepiece, Luminaire, consists of wooden arches handcrafted in south Italy and is fitted with 95,000 coloured light bulbs.

Artificial snow are blasted at fix timeslots through the evening to create a wintry effect. Donna was kind of bewildered by the foam that was floating about in the air. Other than that, she wasn’t too impressed by the whole shebang, not as much as the humans around her were. :P

Other attractions include the Spiegeltent. This is a travelling “mirror tent” that dates back to the late 19th century and offers a unique dining experience in an interior that comprise 1,000 pieces of wood, canvas, brocade, exquisite mirrors and stained glass.

Also the 8-metre tall Casa Armonica, an illuminated gazebo that hosts carollers Friday to Sundays.

The 30 Luminarie light sculptures at the event come from Paulicelli Illuminations International, a family of Italian craftsmen who have been building these sculptures by hand since the 19th century

  1. Donna-you don’t have to be bored. They want white stuff, help them along. It’s really simple. Just put hand dish washing soap into the automatic dishwasher and push start. You won’t be bored for long-it’s a hoot!

  2. Absolutely spectacular lights! If only they weren’t on the other side of the world, I’d love to see the display. Donna is such a good girl!

  3. Wow – those lights are really beautiful.

  4. Pretty sweet! Was wondering how you got snow out in the Bay before I got to the word “artificial!” Yeah, I definitely wouldn’t have been able to enjoy the show from my vantage point!

  5. Those lights are absolutely beautiful and you did an excellent job photographing them. Thanks so much for joining the hop.
