If you take photos of your dog to document his life and your times together you are not alone.
I didn’t take many pictures of Donna when we first brought her home. So this is the only one photo that I can accurately say is from her first day home. It was also the one and only night she spent in our bedroom.
She was restless the whole night, clattering about. It ended up being largely a sleepless night for both of us. Strangely, this itself has become memorable, encapsulated in a simple photo of her preferring to curl up on a nice new towel, rather than her old tub bed from the shelter. And nearby a baby sofa that she could not fit into.
A new home. A new towel. A relationship so new neither of us knew how we fit together yet.
This to me is the value of photography. The ability to document and capture memories visually. It doesn’t matter what your equipment is – a cell phone, a point and shoot camera, a DSLR. In fact, these two photos above were shot with an iPhone.
Using this photo for a different activity on Instagram, but thought I’ll share the photo here as well. :) Share with me your first day home story in the comments if you like :)

Awe Donna is so sweet. It looks like she wants to be comfortable, but is just not sure. Thanks for joining the hop!

Barley’s first day home was one of the few nights she didn’t sleep in my bedroom! I didn’t have a crate for her yet because the shelter had sort of hurried out to my car as soon as the paperwork was done (maybe hoping I wouldn’t change my mind?), so I had planned to shut her in my spare bedroom and get a crate the following morning. She didn’t want to be alone, so I ended up having to sleep in the spare room with her! After that, I started playing Jewel’s music for her when I left her and she got better about being left alone, but still wasn’t thrilled about sleeping alone in her crate–so her bed got moved right beside my bed within a few days :)

:D Barley is very convincing! Glad you both find an arrangement good for you!
I sometimes suffer from skin allergies from dust and dirt, so having Donna in the bedroom is not an option. It did take her quite some time to get used to being on her own at night. She has the run of the living room but I just started crating her for the full night. It worked the first night – 1/2 a night, but on the second night, she was up by 4am and trying to get out of the crate. Guess I went too fast for her!

Photos, like red wine, get better with age. I only have a few photos of Eko from his first days, but I absolutely cherish them. Now with Penny, I can’t shoot fast enough. She’s already doubled in size, so it’s been fun to document her first days home with us.

I agree! If I ever have a second dog, I’ll be busy capturing photos of her right from the start too!! :D Enjoying your photos of Penny and Eko :)

Every single dog, I take more photos. Every single dog, I regret I didn’t take more. Sigh… These are lovely!

Our first day home was hideous. Delilah was wild and crazy. LOL BUT she did sleep in our room and will not give up that privilege. :-)
Thanks for joining the blog hop!

Haha, Delilah knows her mind :) I think our first day was ok… maybe I just blank out the bad parts lol
It's Dog or Nothing
She looks so sweet in those pictures. The first night is always the hardest.

Thank you, it was actually good… got worse after we discovered her thunder phobia! *oops!* :P

Photography is definitely a way for me to chronicle our lives, and the dogs. I wish I had more puppy pics of Roxy.

Aw, nice photos. Simba’s first day home was great. When I first got him, I just knew he was the dog for our home! It was definitely love at first sight. When I first picked him up he just really seemed to like me. When we took him home he played with his new little toy and was just as awesome as he is now! :) I wish I would’ve taken a ton of more photos of him when he was younger!

So sweet! I remember those first few days with my dogs. It takes a little adjusting for everyone.
