Morning walks with Little P
Little P started to join Donna on our morning walks when he was past 6.5 months old. Prior to this, he was happy enough getting some outdoor time on our balcony.
A few factors prompted the beginning of our morning walks:
- I wanted Little P to get used to sitting in the stroller so that we will have less trouble keeping him happy in the stroller as he grew older. (If you’ve ever seen a child screaming bloody murder in the mall because they would rather die than get in the stroller, you’ll understand why I would like to avoid such a situation.)
- Little P was also getting older and able to withstand external stimuli better than when he was younger and less boisterous.
I use positive training with Donna, which means our walks are never without a bag of treats. This does not mean I treat her all the time but I treat her randomly for her good behaviour such as,
- standing by the wall in the lift so that there is ample space for other neighbours using the lift (More about Lift or elevator etiquette for dogs here)
- walking with me
- coming when called
- performing random tricks
I say I treat randomly because learnt behaviour can go extinct if there is no reinforcement.
So a treat now and then will motivate the dog to remember and perform the behaviour that is expected of her. Plus, this more or less constant interaction with her supports bonding during a walk. And with Little P with us on the walk, it is more important than ever that Donna continue with good walking habits.
Treating Staying for a Photo during Morning Walks
That said, I don’t usually bring such a big bag of treats with me on a walk. Much to Donna’s disappointment probably. HAHAHA.
Instead I bring along her day’s ration of treats in one of these waterproof snack bags that are machine-washable and dishwasher-safe.
On this morning’s walk I also wanted to take photos of her with her collar. I guided her onto the bench, but she chose this woeful expression herself because Donna wants treats now!
But don’t be tricked by Donna’s pathetic acts. She actually has so much fun that sometimes when I least expect it, she offers behaviours hoping to get more treats!
I actually only wanted to take photos of Little P on the seesaw but guess Donna had thoughts of her own. :P Bystanders were amused.
Review of Abby the Mongrel dog treats
Look at those dancing frog legs :P
Donna’s review: Excellent. Will work hard for treats!
Mom’s review: Good. Donna enjoyed the duck and pork treats. Donna doesn’t eat exotic meat but the frog legs will definitely be a welcome and fun addition for a pup with allergies to conventional meat like chicken and beef.
However, not so convenient to open the pack because it is so tightly sealed. This is not an uncommon problem. I have encountered this with a different local treat maker before.
Check out her shop – abbythemongrel.com – to see what other treats she sells.

I believe parrots are pet birds. Maybe they are not dry enough to be jerky. š
