2014 calender for tracking the dog preventives schedule

Donna's schedule for preventives calendered for clear tracking and on time administering of dog preventives to the dogWe got the Gentle Paws calendar sometime back but it was only this week that I finally got my lazy self to cut out the pages and tack them onto the door of the cabinet where we store the dog preventives, other medicine, food and dental chews.Tada!

Well stocked shelves because I just replenished our supply this week!

We weren’t that good at adhering to the schedule last year. And I was sorry I had to ask the vet if it was ok there were times we gave Donna her Heartgard a couple of weeks past the one month cycle.

Apparently with Heartgard, I still had to give  Donna the Pyraquantel Allwormer Tablet every three months, to complement the Heartgard. Given our tardiness, the vet thought it was prudent to suggest an alternative preventative to replace Heartgard and the Pyraquantel Intestinal Dewormer altogether. I forgot what its called but the vet explained some dog breeds are reactive to the alternative medicine she was suggesting, but local mongrels have no problems with it.

However, since we still have several months worth of Heartgard left, the doctor gave us the Pyraquantel pills instead.

So this year, we have to track her schedule better! The new calendar has each month on a separate page and boxes which makes it neat when it comes to sticking the stickers from the medications to keep track, as well as make a note of any other important dates that we need to observe, health and otherwise when it comes to the dog.

So there you have it … a little mundane and humdrum detail from the kitchen.

The Gentle Paws calendar is still on sale, details here.

  1. You can use what They use. Both Google and Yahoo will email reminders. They get one on the first of every month for the heartworm med. Set it up and get reminded.

  2. Ah yes, we’re bad at remembering those meds, too. Evidently it’s not such a worry in the winter, but we’ve been recommended to give Heartgard (or something similar) in the summer. I wish I could say both dogs consistently got their meds each summer, but that definitely was not the case. I’ll aim to do better this year.

    • Summer here all year round so we’ve got to be religious about it. Have to say if we have changes in the season, I’ll probably do even worse keeping to some sort of schedule! :P

  3. Had not thought about using email as reminder; but think I’ll set up a reminder on my i-Phone! I do use the stickers that come with the heartworm preventative and put those on my small wall calendar in my kitchen, and that has worked well for me. With it rather warm here I do have to use heartworm prevention all year long!

On a separate note, check out my past Monday blog…I mentioned/linked to your wonderful site for learning photo apps! Love everything you do!!

    • Thank you for the link up! I find the physical calendar with the sticker on the cabinet door works best for me because I get the opportunity to check it every time I open it to get Donna’s breakfast and dinner on the daily basis :)… That and it gives me reason to use that calendar we bought. Hahahaha…
