A dog with a tennis ball

I normally try to avoid posting very blurred photos. Unfortunately, I don’t have any good photos from this tennis ball fetch session. So… showing you the opposite of the pictures I usually post today.

When your pictures are lacking, group them together so it looks like you intended them to work that way!!!! :D *shhhhhh…..! That’s my lame blogging tip of the day!!*

Anyway, I present to you the long corridor that is the spine of our flat and the highway of our dog’s dash and fetch games.

And the rest of the floor where she sprawls about nom, nom, nom on her saliva-smothered tennis ball.

Can dogs play with tennis balls?

Yes, modern tennis balls “use a safe dye that will not cause harm to dogs”.

But be aware that tennis balls have an abrasive texture that can wear down the teeth of compulsive chewers. Therefore, tennis balls are great for a game of fetch or chuck it but are certainly not chew toys.

They can become choking hazards when broken into pieces that can be swallowed. And in the case of bigger dogs with strong jaws that can compress a tennis ball, the ball could “pop open in the back of the throat and cut off the dog’s air supply”.

If the tennis ball is smaller than your dog’s head, you probably should not give it to him as a toy.

So no more rolling around the floor with the tennis ball in your mouth Donna!

  1. That’s a perfect spot to run & chase your ball!! I have a long hallway like that & I do the same thing!

    • Oh yay, two lucky dogs with long hallways :) that’s the only spot to run in the house without banging into things! :P

  2. Great post! Good message about tennis balls. They can really do damage to a dog’s teeth! You can buy dog tennis balls that are not abrasive, but they don’t last too long either!

    • Thanks! I never knew they were that capable of damage before. We’ll just play more with her other softer toys I guess :) Have a good day today!

  3. I enjoyed the photos, because they give a sense of action and time out, so to speak. Do not apologize: sometimes out-of-focus can be okay. Yours made an interesting set.

  4. I have a lab who loves to play fetch with tennis balls mostly with the balls he retrieves from the tennis courts near our house. The only problem is after the game , he loves to peel off the clothe covering and then chew the ball till it bursts. Thanks for the warning, I will be careful in future , after all he is so precious to us

  5. I think the action shots are cool and great tips on the tennis balls.

  6. I am a golden dog that LOVEs tennis balls. Good thing you have a long hallway in your flat. Happy Black n White Sunday. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

    • You know what will really rock? Golden tennis balls for a golden dog! :P Happy Sunday to you too, thanks for dropping by :)

  7. I think all those shots worked great together.

  8. Great photos! I love them all! And thanks for the tips about tennis balls. My girl destroys them in, I kid you not, less than 5 minutes, so we don’t give them to her very often.

We’re participating in our first Black & White Sunday over on The Lazy Pit Bull! Hope you’ll check us out!

    • Wow less than 5 minutes! Your girl is talented in that area :P I’ve been to the Lazy Pit Bull and met Maggie :D. She’s a cutie.
Thanks for dropping by and your kind words :) Have a great sunday!

  9. I love tennis balls! Wooooowoooooooo, Ku

  10. I think blur photos provided the feeling of motions and when you set them together, it seemed that we could watch a short film :) It was like I could see Donna ran and played with a tennis ball in animation.

  11. barkandchatter

    She looks worn out! :)

  12. We love the actions shots! I have a few teeny tiny tennis balls because the “regular” ones are too big for my taste, but I don’t have as much fun with them as you do!

    • Why not? I heard dachshunds are great chasers of things :3 Donna’s mother thinks Donna’s DNA was more to guard than to chase, but Donna prefers to lie around and get comfy any time when we don’t play or eat. Thanks for dropping by and have a great week ahead!!

  13. Great tips about grouping your shots together! :)

    • Yes, one more validation for the lame blogging tip of the day! :P Thank you for dropping by :) Have a great week ahead!

  14. Very tricky use of collage today :)

  15. Well, it’s difficult to get clear photos of a dog in motion! I like the action photos, and it certainly looks like Donna is having a great time! She is so cute! My two girls love balls too, but we did have to find a different type of ball for our Golden, Sheba, because she did like to chew the tennis balls in half! West Paw Design makes a mostly indestructible ball that is the same size as a tennis ball, and the girls love them.

    • She was having a great time! :D It’s strange to a human how a dog can get so obsessive about fetching things but she does. I’m glad you were able to find a superball for your girls! Thankfully, ours remain intact, if a bit smothered in drool :3 Have a great week ahead with your girls!

  16. Mel

LOL> I love your tip. I agree, grouping them also helps tell teh story. Very cute. Love the nom, nom at the end. Also, great info on tennis balls. My Jasper loves his very much.

    • Thank you for the kind words :) Now if we can only teach them to play a real game of tennis :P Have a great week ahead *hands virtual treats to Jasper*

  17. Too cute. The pics should be blurred. I’d worry if he was easy to photo with the tennis ball! Just always make sure you know where the tennis ball is — I’d hate to think she accidentally swallowed it! It’s not common but it does happen.

    • The good thing is, the risk for her is low, the bad news is, I’m still hunting around for her pressed bone. This flat is small, where could she have hidden it? or eaten it already? :P But yes, tennis ball is out of reach and only for supervised play ;) Have a great week ahead Linda!

  18. Long hallways are the best! Aren’t they? I love to play fetch in my house too! :)

  19. Oh, Donna, you are so lucky to have a nice long hallway for tennis ball play, and my mommy thinks all playtime shots should be blurry–mostly because she’s not a very good action photographer. ;-)

    • Your mommy may be modest, Donna’s human thinks its all about the camera, problem is, the human persist in taking pictures using her camera phone! Who’s to be blamed for the blurry shots? Not Donna! :D Have a great week ahead!!

  20. That long hallway has to be awesome to play in! We could so run and chase each other if we had one of those! Great tennis ball tips!

    • Glad you find the tips helpful :) We don’t have much space in the flat so lucky we got the long hallway :D Have a great week ahead!

  21. yes – I’ve also had a distinct lack of photos too after crazy snapping on holiday. how many pictures of our dogs can we take??? ps. will promise to do the wordpress family award thingy this week..:)

    • I suddenly realise *drumroll*… that your holiday pictures are colour, but your back home pictures are black and white!!! The holiday must have really coloured your spirits!!!!!! :D

But yes we take alot. My iPhone has ran out of space again D:

Don’t stress yourself about the award thing. Do it when the mood strikes and you are happy doing it I always say :)

      • Yes – I prefer black and white for Ruby because I find it hard to take coloured ones – her coat always seems so dense in colour. And you’re right the holidays were colourful :)

  22. We have a long corridor in our apartment too where we play in-house fetch with Roy. Trouble is, it’s wooden floors and Roy keeps skidding. Although we think that’s his favourite part of the game. ;P

    • I think they adjust to the skidding after a while. Our tile floor is very skid-able! Thanks for dropping by :) Have a great week ahead!

  23. Hello Donna! I live in a flat too — and play fetch in the hallway — such fun!
    Lovely to meet you :)
    Miss Marple x

  24. Cute pics! Thanks for stopping by yesterday! Your Donna looks like a combo of my Lola & Tut! :)

    • More Lola I guess :P Donna is a local mongrel born to local mongrel parents… I’ve no idea what’s in her ancestry. :P Thanks for dropping by too :)

  25. Donna would be scared of these I’m sure!
