Weekly Phoneography: Blown bulb

Macro view of a blown bulb base .blown bulb

Phoneography Monday Challenge: Macro
Apps used: Samsung Note 10.1 LTE native camera, Snapseed
Our energy saving bulbs in the study had blown recently and I was surprised to find the craters in the base… sort of like a minor earthquake had occurred within the bulb. Hence the choice of subject matter for the macro theme.

  1. Hmm. Perhaps there is a deeper significance that we are missing. I didn’t really examine the last couple of blown bulbs. I just tossed them in the bin. Maybe I should have looked closer.

    • Hmmm, have no idea what deeper significance there is. Do know that it did take us a longer time to replace them since those megaman bulbs are not available anywhere – – haha! But I did like the unexpected catastrophe of their blown hearts. Look closer next time ;)

  2. These are a terrific subject, helping us see what we ordinarily would not. Well done. Happy Phoneography Monday.

    • They caught me since I certainly wasn’t expecting the base to crack up like that. It was interesting and glad you found it so, Sally :)

  3. I love finding things I don’t ordinarily see. Good job!

  4. Watch out for those things. They have mercury in them and you don’t want that toxin around humans or animals. Get LED bultbs. They’re expensive certainly, but they’re safe, they use even less energy and they’ll last forever almost.

    • We got energy saving light bulbs when we were first doing up the flat just to keep the costs down because doing LED in one fell swop can be expensive as you say. As the bulbs blow out, we are slowly replacing them with LED wherever we find one that can fit :) We are also careful to make sure we wrap the bulbs in two layers of plastic before we dispose of them.

  5. What a great subject! I particularly love the final photo… the lovely curves of the bulbs and then their ‘scars’ at the base.

  6. Awwwww, you got the Samsung I see. Awesome choice!! And a cool photo.

    • It’s an old Samsung tablet, resolution of photos is kind of low so I’m getting use to poorer quality photos still :P LOL

  7. Don’t diss Samsung, I switched from the iPhone to a Samsung on a hunch that Samsung would someday beat Apple hands down in the mobile photography stakes…and that day is coming very soon. Your macro of a blown bulb is spot on, sharp and clear with nice blurring at the edges. Apple may have the most Apps, but the iPhone 5 is a disappointment.

    • Hiya :) I have nothing against the Samsung brand. My comments pertain to the specific model Note 10.1 LTE I am using for this set of photos, which unfortunately sports a lower resolution compared to my previous iPhone 4s. It is easier to locate good quality apps for the Apple compared to the Android though. Thank you for your kind comments about the photos. :)

  8. Such a variety this week. Yours is so unexpected ;)
