Dog-friendly Cafes in Tiong Bahru

There’s quite a few dog-friendly cafes in Tiong Bahru. I have been exploring the parks with Donna somewhat near the Tiong Bahru area recently. So we’ve discovered more dog-friendly eating places in that area thanks to friends on Instagram! (Find me @weliveinaflat!)

Guess which dog-friendly cafe in Tiong Bahru I am at!!

In this post, I’m featuring the two that I visited recently. But I will include more suggestions I’ve got from friends so you actually will have more options to consider than just two. ;)

Dog-friendly cafes that allow dogs at the outdoor seating in Tiong Bahru

1. Tiong Bahru Bakery

The first cafe we visited recently was Tiong Bahru Bakery.

Tiong Bahru Bakery enjoys good online reviews for their Kouign Amann (that round pastry looking bread in the middle) and their croissant. But personally I enjoyed their Salmon and Spinach Quiche more than those breads. :P

We counted ourselves lucky that there is an eating place opened as early as 8am on a Monday morning. There was quite a number of outdoor seating outside of the bakery. However, most of them were two-seaters and occupied!

Tiong Bahru Bakery does not take reservations. So if you plan to visit, its best to go in pairs, OR plan to reach early so you can combine empty tables for a larger party.

We were there with @thisismyeastergram, @somewhitecookie and @thetwofurries. We had some challenges before we got this four-seater table in front of the shop. Photo by somewhitecookie.

It’s all single tables lining the corridor along the other side of the bakery, so this section is out for us. Photo by somewhitecookie.

Eating places that are named after local place names usually give me the feeling that they are established heritage brands, e.g. Katong Laksa. However, Tiong Bahru Bakery has a relatively short history, being an artisan bakery opened by the Spa Esprit group in collaboration with the French baker Gontran Cherrier.

While it won’t be my first choice for a resting place the next time I am in the area (unless I have a sudden craving for salmon and spinach quiche :P), I am still keen to visit their Raffles City branch because sassymamasg.com makes the hot food menu there sound so yummy. #YesIAmEasilyInfluencedbySocialMedia 😂 You can go check out their article here.

2. Flock Cafe

A few streets away from Tiong Bahru Cafe, Flock Cafe struck me as an oasis of calm and peace.

I was there on a Thursday morning and there was plenty of available outdoor seating.

Two-seaters along the corridor. There was some pedestrian traffic, including people walking their dogs so sitting at these small tables can be pretty distracting for your dog.

At first I sat right outside. I wasn’t sure if the dog was allowed in the non-air conditioned area that was still a part of the shophouse interior. But the shop staff actually preferred we sit at the tables inside the open-air section of the shop, away from the corridor. So we moved in.

Donna waited outside while I ordered my food.

I was recommended the $10 eggs and toast set. But I thought the $10 granola and pancakes set sounded more value for money. There were no pictures so I couldn’t really see what I could get with the eggs and toast set, besides erm… eggs and toast HAHAHA. It was altogether a pretty filling breakfast. I do wish the fruits in the side fruit salad were all fresh fruits, rather than part canned fruits though. :P

I was definitely happy with the meal and the peaceful environment. And I could see us returning again to try out their other items on the menu if we were in the area again.

  1. There are some great eating places here in Arizona. Some have great views of the Grand Canyon (which must have been dug by a terrier).
