The new dog run in Sembawang Park [map] will be launched 14 Sep 2014. Sembawang Park Dog RunStanding at about 2700 Sq M, it is bigger than Bishan Park. ;) Awesome!

Directions
Sembawang Park can be reached via Sembawang Road. There are two carparks within walking distance of the Dog Run. The second one further down the road is nearer to the dog run entrance.

Donna at weliveinaflat.com and SomeWhiteCookie decided we should be the pioneer generation and go sniff out this dog run before others do. Haha!

Sembawang Park dog run entrance

Just one week before the launch, the dog run is not totally completed. The site still has some signs of construction work going on such as sandbags at the entrance and unknown bumps hidden under tarps.

But mostly the site looked quite clear and clean, so we decided to sneak in and inspect the premises. :P

The pioneer generation immediately headed for the nearest tree to claim ownership of the land!!

This is the view on the inside a few steps from the entrance.

The long rectangular site has a row of trees running down the middle. Gotta love the depth of it.

The land is gently sloping downwards. I personally like that for several reasons.  It gives the dogs more of a work out running up and down the slope. The other dog runs we go to are flat, so I definitely like the variety. I also wonder if it will become more of a deterrent for agility groups to come and “colonise” the park for their own use.

The site is rather pretty with the row of trees in the middle and the ground still green. I suppose it may become bare in spots, given time with enough dogs and humans trampling over the land.

Cookie and Donna checked out the perimeter fencing away from the entrance.

Here’s the view, still looking down slope from the other corner, opposite the entrance. This side runs along a green fence that separates the park from Sembawang Wharves (if I am not wrong). The site itself can be noisy, given its close proximity to the wharves.

Sembawang Park dog run shade trees

Two palm-like trees, bedecked with ferns, provide shade from the sun. They stand somewhere close to the middle of the length of the park on the side near the green fencing.

Here’s the view from the bottom of the slope. That’s the other end of the long park.

It looks like there will be limited seating. One table and bench set in plain view, and I’m guessing a second one hidden under the tarp in the background.  (background right in the picture above.) Or it could be a tap that’s still being installed, like the one in Bishan. Guess, we’ll only know when it’s unveiled!

The nearest landmark  is the Battleship Playground (for children age 6-12). That’s the sticklike structure in background in the photo below. :P But Cookie and Donna were too tired to go take pictures at this popular children’s playground. :P

Now if they only build some doggy obstacles for some doggy parkour fun in the dog run!

Update: have confirmed with NParks that Sembawang Park Dog Run is currently the biggest dog run in Singapore, managed by NParks.

  1. Where are the fire hydrants?

  2. Looks like a big party about to happen there!

  3. That’s a nice looking dog park. We have yet to check the dog parks here in our new home in Des Moines, IA. I hear we have to get a permit first, but I haven’t done any research on how to do that.

    • Wow, it never occurred to me you would need permits to visit a dog park. Is it because they are off-leash parks? We don’t have dog parks… only fenced dog runs within public parks.

  4. Ooooo the dog run looks muccchhhhhh bigger than Bishan’s combined!! Want to go!!!

  5. Lets go again soon!

  6. Is there room for a cat, Donna ;) Pawkisses and enjoy :)

  7. Plenty of green grass to roll and run in, looks like it’s going to be a hit.

  8. Looks like a big, beautiful run. Enjoy, Donna!

  9. Donna, will your human be bringing you to the event this weekend?

  10. That looks like a nice big park. I did wonder how long the nice green would last…lol.

  11. I will be checking the park out later! It looks really good and I LOVE THERE IS ACTUALLY A SLOPE! :p

  12. biggest in Singapore? when we visited, it seemed like it was 1/3 the size of the west coast dog run.. so disappointing

    • I personally haven’t visited west coast dog run. I trust Nparks know how to measure their parks. :P Perhaps west coast dog run is not managed by Nparks but by town council?
