Gotcha Day at Macritchie Reservoir

dog at macritchie reservoirWe adopted Donna on 12th January last year. That makes it our 1st year anniversary with a dog two days ago. We didn’t rename her but she did have to adjust to a new home, a bigger space to roam in and more things to chew on that were not supposed to be discovered in the first place. Now that a year has passed, we are more comfortable with worrying less about leaving her alone in the flat.

We thought we would go hiking at Macritchie Reservoir, but the sky decided to rain on our parade. We barely had enough time to scarf down our MacDonald’s drive-through brunch, while sharing a small pavilion rain shelter with a young lad with a guitar and a sizeable nose, and the girl he had in tow. That made three of us the third wheels, hah!

Donna was unperturbed by the little drizzle, the human with the camera was disturbed by rain drops on the lens and Mr P was busy being upset that the MacDonald’s staff foisted hot water in the coffee cup on us, instead of the coffee that Mrs P ordered. So yes, always check the goods when they hand it over from the window. I needed that coffee!

With the never say die  attitude, we still tried to make for the forested trails of the reservoir/nature reserve before the rain got heavier and beat us back. Not before we snatched a few pictures in the light drizzle.

Plan B was to visit a dog café where Donna can at least have some fun with other dogs. The nearest was Paw Pet-radise, which ended up being a  disappointment. We got to their front door but we never made it in because it was small and overcrowded until patrons and dogs spilled over the sidewalk on the Sunday afternoon. OMG. Too popular.

Plain B foiled, we made an impromptu trip to visit with our grandmother instead. Now our grandmother had never given us permission to bring our dog that sheds into her house. But when the three of us appeared on her doorstep and the human and the dog stood outside the flat for a long time, there was no help for it but to let us in. Haha :P

Donna ratcheted up her brownie points with grandmother by being very good  at staying in one spot for a long time without being a nuisance. She shook paws and did a few tricks lazily. It was obvious her heart wasn’t in it. But the grandmother and aunts were charmed anyway. :P

A few photos of Macritchie Reservoir follows, we’ll conquer the trails another day :P

“I wanna see the Macritchie Reservoir too!” said the dog, who is short. So she took a flying leap.dog at macritchie reservoir

“Kind of hard to stay steady on this wall…I need to concentrate and see where I’m putting my paw.” Had to take the lead off her, it’s just safer if she wants to be up there.

“Geronimo!!”

Now I’ve enough of picture taking, said the dog as she rolled her eyes heavenward.

  1. It looks like a lovely place, I hope you get to go back soon and enjoy it on a nice day. At least you got to spend the day together! Happy Anniversary to all of you!

    • Yup, doesn’t make sense not to spend the day together for Gotcha day :) Thank you so much for taking the time to write! :)

  2. Don’t say anything to Donna, but she’s filled out since then! Looking good, though, and she is one of my top four or five favorite pets of other people on the Internet! Lots of personality, that girl!

    • Donna’s around 15kg and we are keeping her that way… used to be fat at 18kg. Hoho. She has skinny legs though. We are lucky she is in your top 4-5 list. Thank you so much!

  3. Happy, happy–you’ve had a fun-filled year, and seem to have such willingness to do the best for Donna. She seems to reward you with her devotion.

    • Local mongrels are apparently supposed to be quite loyal. Ours has made it her livelong vocation to be devoted to food. She would sit in front of any stranger with a treat. :P

  4. Happy Gotcha day sweet girl! Jackpot for all of you!!!!

  5. Reservoir?? For a celebration, nothing beats the tasting room at a treat factory.

    • I don’t think we have treat factories over here. I had chicken though… I refused to have any more chicken after a while. Imagine that!

  6. That looks like a great place. Happy Gotcha day Donna. You are one lucky pup!

  7. Love that final picture especially. What a happy face :-)

  8. Nice balancing Donna!

  9. Love the rich colours in the photos!

  10. Looks like a beautiful and relaxing spot. :)

  11. Happy gotcha day Donna. Pretty place too bad the weather didn’t cooperate.

  12. Dogs are not allowed in the trail :(
