Easy raw dog food review – Primal, Northwest, Stewart & more freeze-dried brands

In 2015, I wrote an introduction to Commercial Raw Dog Food. At that time, there were limited brands of commercial freeze dried dog food – only 2. It has been slightly more than a year and a half, and the good news is we have more choices today than before! Let’s take a look at five freeze dried commercial raw dog food brands that you can find on the shelves today! :)

The five brands are Stella & Chewy’s, Northwest Naturals, Stewart Raw Naturals, Primal Freeze Dried Nuggets and K9 Natural.

Here’s Donna’s review of them :P

Now that you’ve seen Donna’s review, we’ll go on to the human’s review of the food. ;) In this post, we will review the food along the following themes:

  • Budget-wise
What is the Cost per day? How long does each pack last?
  • Quality-nutrition
What is the quality of the ingredients that go into the bag
  • Food safety
Which brand has recalled their food before? What food safety programs have they put in place to protect our pets and family members?

Best dog harness for road and water safety

I’m going to talk about 2 safety harnesses for dogs today. The Sleepypod Clickit Sport Untility dog harness and the Ruffwear K-9 Float Coat. Because safety is important, and it hit me really hard when we got into an accident right before New Years eve.

10 things to buy for your dog or cat at Don Quijote in Japan

Trying to stretch that dollar while touring in Japan? Don Quijote is a discount chain where you can buy pet supplies and products for cheaper. Here’s my pick from visiting Don Quijote stores in both Kyoto and Osaka! ;)

Don Quijote stores in Japan are like a chain of megamarts that stock EVERYTHING. These stores stay open till late while most stores closed by 9pm. So definitely the place to head to at night, if you were unable to squeeze time into your day for shopping because of your tight travel schedule. ;) Popularly known as “Donki”, they stock food, drugs, luggage, cosmetics, clothing, home and garden tools and accesories, you name it. So you will likely find lots of things to buy, and not just for pets. :P

Kyoto and Osaka Pet Shops for Cat & Dog Goods

I don’t need to tell you that Japan is a favourite travel destination for many. The country is beautiful and safe, even for single female travellers.

And if you have a dog or cat, it’s actually pretty fun to shop or even just window shop through the stores selling pet-related goods. I recently returned from a short trip to Kyoto, Nara and Osaka.

Finding the safest car harness for dog

I ordered a car harness for my dog yesterday. So Donna’s sitting on the car floor days will soon be over. She’ll need to have her doggie seat belt fastened, just like the humans. :P

Fasten that seat belt! Finding the best safest car harness for dog

Donna sitting on the floor of the car beside my legs.

You may have seen Donna sitting on the car floor quite often. More out of necessity as we travel on cabs and Uber alot. And some drivers do worry about the dog dirtying the seats or dog hair turning off subsequent customers.

But personally, my own preference is for Donna to be on the car seat secured to a reliable car seat belt. So yah, please don’t let my past photos of Donna sitting untethered on the car floor make you assume that this is safe.

Dog potty time! Let’s review 5 Pee Pad Brands

Halloween is coming! So I thought it’ll be a great time to write about a horrifying topic…

Dog potty time! Let's review 5 Pee Pad Brands in Singapore

… Pee In The House! 😱 😱 😱

At first I assumed it was normal to use newspaper for Donna’s peeing and pooing needs in the flat, because that was what paper-training means right? The dog is trained to do it on newspaper.

But I soon realised that newspaper was a really bad medium for absorbing pee. And Donna had and still has the unfortunate habit of kicking the newspapers (and peepads) around after doing the deed.

So you can imagine how good absorption is so important to me. Donna tracks the pee off the pet sheet when she is done. Sometimes, she kicks the pee pad around in the toilet, sometimes even out into the common hallway. I really don’t want all that pee to smear around on the floor.

In this post, let’s do some tests to see which pee pad will work better with Donna!

Whether you are currently toilet training or have toilet trained your dog, you will find the following test outcomes helpful to you!

Singapore Pet Shop

Cheapest Singapore Pet Shop for Dog Food & Pet Supplies

Every new dog owner wants to know which Singapore pet shop to buy affordable pet supplies from. So in 2014, I scoured the web to compile a directory of Singapore’s Online Pet Shops and ended up with a list of 50 online stores. 50! You can see the full list here.

I was ranking them based on traffic to see who was more popular, but you know what? The rankings fluctuated from month to month simply because there was many small online pet supplies stores and only one major player at that time – Pet Lovers Centre. The market was very fragmented at the time and there was very little differentiation among all the little pet shops to a new dog owner like me.

So let’s do it differently today.
